Man Nabbed For Exposing Himself To Women, Toddlers At Long Island Old Navy, Police Say

A man wanted for allegedly exposing himself to two women who were accompanied by toddlers at an Old Navy on Long Island has been arrested and is now also facing charges for several other unrelated incidents, police say.

Nassau County Police announced the arrest of 47-year-old Hempstead resident Charles McClendon on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Old Navy incident happened on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 3:20 p.m. in East Garden City when a 33-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman, both accompanied by their young children, allegedly witnessed McClendon expose his genitals.

During the investigation of that incident, police say it was determined McClendon was also responsible for these incidents.

  • On Oct. 15, 2019, McClendon entered Orange Theory located at 211 Glen Cove Road in Carle Place without permission and proceeded to shower in the woman’s locker room, police say.
  • On Dec. 30, 2019 McClendon entered Best Buy located at 1100 Old Country Road in East Garden City and removed five vacuums from the store without making a payment, said police The merchandise was valued at $2,499.95.
  • On Jan. 1, 2020 McClendon entered Buy Buy Baby located at 895 E Gate Blvd. in East Garden City and proceeded to the woman’s restroom, according to police. After entering, he exposed himself to a female victim, said police. The 65-year-old victim yelled at McClendon, who left the bathroom and fled the scene, according to police.

McClendon has been charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of public lewdness and criminal trespass. He will be arraigned when medically practical, according to police.
